NEET UG Counselling 2026: NMC releases MBBS seat matrix; 1.36 lakh seats across 823 medical colleges

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the official MBBS seat matrix for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate (UG) 2026 counselling. According to the latest data released by NMC, a total of 1,36,939 MBBS seats will be available for admission through the counselling process this year.

As per the seat matrix, 63,296 seats are available in government medical colleges, while 73,643 seats are offered by private medical colleges. Compared to the previous year, the total number of MBBS seats has increased by 9,911, providing more admission opportunities for NEET UG aspirants.

The seat matrix released by the NMC does not include seats offered by Institutes of National Importance (INIs) such as AIIMS, JIPMER, PGIMER and other centrally governed medical institutions. The NEET UG 2026 admissions to these institutes are conducted separately under their respective counselling processes.

The latest MBBS UG seat matrix 2026 indicates an increase of 9,911 seats over the previous year's intake. The additional seats are expected to benefit candidates participating in the NEET UG counselling 2026 process.

As per the notice, the NMC has directed all medical colleges to ensure MBBS admissions are made only against the seats approved by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) for the 2026-27 academic year. It said admissions exceeding the approved intake are not allowed.
