NEET UG Counselling: NMC revises MBBS seat matrix, adds 13,186 seats for academic year 2026-27

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has revised the MBBS seat matrix and added 13,186 new seats in 836 private and government medical colleges for the academic year 2026-27. Notably, this year, 38 new medical colleges have been established, offering MBBS admissions across the country.

NMC has updated the MBBS seat matrix for the academic year 2026-27 after approval granted by the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB), the first and second appeal committees of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW).

NMC revises MBBS seat matrix

According to the NMC seat matrix, 445 government medical colleges have seen an increase of 2,786 seats, bringing the total to 63,971. Similarly, 391 private medical colleges have added 10,400 MBBS seats, bringing their total to 76,243.

NMC earlier published the MBBS seat matrix showing a 78% increase in MBBS seats at private medical colleges, as compared to the previous year. Over 63,00 seats were available in government medical colleges, while 73,643 seats were offered by private medical colleges.

MCC NEET UG Counselling 2026

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) added around 600 MBBS, BDS, and BSc nursing admission seats for MCC NEET UG counselling 2026 round 2 admission. MCC will announce the NEET UG counselling 2026 round 2 final seat allotment results today.

As per the MCC NEET UG round 2 dates, candidates who have been allotted seats will have to report to the college between September 12 and 18, and verification of the joined candidates is scheduled for September 19.

Furthermore, NMC has reiterated that all medical colleges should ensure that admissions are made only against the approved number of seats, or else any admission made in excess of the approved intake capacity will be treated as non-compliance with the provisions of the NMC Act.
