NEW DELHI, AUGUST 17: The ongoing impasse at the Manipur University (MU) is likely to end soon with State government agreeing to replace two members of the fact finding committee. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Manipur government and the MU community, which include students and teachers.

The normal activity at the varsity has been affected adversely for the last 78 days as students and teachers have been demanding the ouster of the incumbent Vice Chancellor over alleged administrative and financial irregularities.

The Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) has been on a strike for nearly three months now at the varsity campus demanding the ouster of Prof Adya Prasad Pandey. The students are alleging that the VC has been misusing his administrative powers, varsity funds and for most of the time is out of the University.

The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has constituted a fact finding committee last month headed by former Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court. The committee was assigned the task to conduct a field visit and hold discussion with all the stakeholders, it is likely to submit the report soon.
