NEW DELHI: The National Student Union of India (NSUI) today dissolved the All Delhi State NSUI Committee. However, the Delhi NSUI president has not been removed from his position.
The decision comes a couple of weeks after the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) election result 2024 were declared. The Congress student wing NSUI could only win one seat in the four member panel of the DUSU. NSUI vice-president candidate Abhi Dahiya had won the seat with a difference of 1,829 votes.
The new All Delhi State NSUI Committee will be formed in a month. The process is an annual affair as every year new committee is formed, a source in the NSUI said.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had secured three seats, including the post of DUSU president. Tushar Dedha of the Department of Buddhist Studies won the DUSU president’s post. Aprajita and Sachin Bansal had won the secretary and joint secretary’s posts, respectively. Around one lakh students of 52 DU colleges and departments were eligible to cast their votes through EVMs.
The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) was established on April 9, 1971. It was founded by Indira Gandhi after merging the Kerala Students Union and the West Bengal State Chhatra Parishad to form a national students' organisation.
Presently Neeraj Kundun is president of NSUI while former JNUSU president and All India Congress Committee secretary Kanhaiya Kumar is in-charge of the organisation.
