NUS pulls a Hat Trick, only 7 from India in top 100: THE Asia Ranking 2018

New Delhi: The National University of Singapore (NUS) for the third time in a row has been ranked as the top university in the Asia Rankings by the Times Higher Education (THE). The latest Ranking has been a mixed bag for India as the ranking of some institutions have shot up while that of some have gone way too low from their previous year’s rank. The number of institutions has also gone down from eight last year to seven now.
The NUS has received an overall score of 81.7, with a positive female to male ratio of 51:49, the university has 30 percent international students.
Tsinghua University has outraced Peking University and now occupies the second position. The top 10 list has three universities from Hong Kong and two universities each from Singapore, China, South Korea, and the University of Tokyo from Japan.
As opposed to eight universities in the top 100 in 2017 Ranking, Asia rankings 2018 feature seven Indian universities among the top 100. Leading them is the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore at 29th position, it was ranked at 27 in 2017. The others are IIT Bombay (44), IIT Kharagpur (60), IIT Roorkee (65), IIT Kanpur (81), IIT Delhi (86), Tezpur University (100) and IIT Madras at 103.
As per THE, the Ranking of Indian institutions has improved with improvement in citation performance as they are also picking up in other areas such as research productivity.
Phil Baty, Editorial Director, Global Rankings, THE said, “India has strengthened across 10 metrics in the Asia University Rankings.”
