Some students saw the man hanging from the ceiling, through the window of his room and informed the warden," Gopalpur police station in-charge Sarada Prasan Das said. A case was registered and his family informed, he said. Prima facie, it seems to be a suicide case but the reason for it is not yet known, the officer said, adding further investigation is underway.
There has been an steep increase in the number of student suicide cases reported in the past few months. The biggest one so far, is the suicide case of Darshan Solanki. The family of the deceased student alleged caste-based discrimination that led to the extreme step. IIT Bombay’s internal committee’s report on the case showed that Solanki would “skip classes regularly” and “sleep a lot". The committee suggests that there was no caste-based discrimination.
