Padma Award 2024: 19 win Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri awards for ‘literature and education’

Padma Award 2024 was announced on Republic Day. Two will receive Padma Bhushan award and 17 will be presented Padma Shri for literature and education.
NEW DELHI: The ministry of home affairs has announced the Padma Awards 2024, the highest civilian awards of the country. 19 won awards under the ‘Literature and Education’ category, of which two will be presented with Padma Bhushan.
President Droupadi Murmu has approved 132 Padma Awards including 2 duo cases. Of this, five will be presented Padma Vibhushan, 17 with Padma Bhushan and 110 Padma Shri Awards. The ministry also informed that 30 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 8 persons from the category of foreigners, Non-Resident Indians (NRI), Person of Indian Origin (PIO), Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI), and 9 Posthumous awardees.
The awards are given in three categories - Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri - in various disciplines such as art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service.
“Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field,” the ministry said.
The list of Padma Award 2024 winners are usually announced on Republic Day and the President confers the awards at ceremonial functions held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March or April every year.
