Parliament panel recommends taking ISRO’s help for remote learning: Report

NEW DELHI: The Parliamentary Committee on education, on Monday, recommended that the government take help from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists to implement satellite TV classrooms in the country, reports Asian News International.

The panel also discussed the content and design of school textbooks and the plans to bridge the learning gap arising from the COVID-19 induced lockdown, according to the report.

The committee explored the possibility of using satellite TV classrooms to broadcast education programmes to cluster classrooms to solve the issue of smartphone and data connectivity.

"We have noted that in rural areas of the country, not every household has a smartphone and it is not practical for students to take online classes from a smartphone. Sometimes the network is not good for online classes," a panel member told ANI.

The committee also commented that reopening schools is a state subject and that detailed guidelines on this have been sent to the states. Issues such as waiver of school fees were not discussed on Monday but will be discussed in the coming meeting, according to ANI sources.

The committee on education, women, children, youth and sports is headed by member of Rajya Sabha from BJP, Vinay Sahasrabuddhe.
