Passing theory and internals separately mandatory for CBSE 10th Board

NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 1: Students appearing for Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class 10 examination will have to score 33 per cent separately in Theory and practical. Candidates have to secure at least 27 out of 80 marks in the theory papers. The internal assessments are held for 20 marks and test takers have to score a minimum of 7 marks.

The Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation (CCE) and the optional Board exam were introduced in 2010 and were under effect till 2017. In 2018, with the reintroduction of the mandatory Board exam, candidates were granted a one-time relaxation in the passing marks and it was enough to obtain overall 33% marks to pass CBSE class 10th . As per reports, statistics pertaining to previous years point out that most of the students who appeared in the CBSE 10th Board exams scored better marks in internals rather than in theory. Students, however, managed to obtain the minimum required overall 33% and thus cleared the exam.

Now, with the rules being changed and passing in both theory and internals becoming a mandate, students have to put equal effort in clearing both. More than 10 lakh students are expected to take CBSE class 10 2019 examination to commence from the first week of March. However, vocational subjects would start from mid- February in 2019.
