NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 14 : The newly established Patliputra University (PPU) finds itself in a big mess while the six-month old university has not been able to restructure its functioning, yet. With as many as 22 different colleges under its jurisdiction, the PPU split from Magadh University in March, this year. The Patliputra University is in acute dearth of faculty which primarily is the biggest reason for creating problems in its functioning.
The faculty which at one time were a part of Magadh University were to join its bifurcated university. Surprisingly, most of them have not yet reported to their respective colleges. The Magadh University, increasing the problems, have not yet handed the several important documents to the Patliputra University which also include the list of shifted faculty and non-teaching staff, despite numerous reminders by the latter.
The Patliputra University Vice Chancellor was quoted saying, “The university is passing through a critical situation where it can only function fully with the joint cooperation of the Raj Bhawan, the State Government, the faculty and the students.”
According to the several media sources, the PPU’s advisory council, transfer committee, examination department, grievance cell and staff welfare committee do exist, but only on papers. The university has also not been recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) to avail grants in the future.
“The colleges were supposed to kick-start its academic functioning from July but even after three months, we’re here, with nothing,” said a PPU official, even as he added, “The university was running without a regular registrar.”
One of the other officials on the basis of anonymity, claimed, “An initial allocation of Rupees Five Crore was made up the state government to develop Patliputra University infrastructure, but nothing is being seen working.”
He also added, “A sum of amount was also handed over to an agency which was supposed to install CCTV cameras, but you can’t find even one installed!”
