PAU organises Swachhata Hi Seva cleanliness drive

Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign: PAU students cleaned laboratories and corridors and collected waste, plastic litter from the college lawns during the cleanliness drive.
NEW DELHI: The Punjab Agricultural University’s (PAU) departments of chemistry and biochemistry jointly organised a cleanliness drive in the college of basic sciences and humanities. This event was a part of the ongoing "Swachhata hi Seva" campaign. Around 100 students from both departments came together for the cleanliness drive.
During the Swachhata Hi Seva cleanliness drive the students cleaned the laboratories and corridors, and also collected waste, plastic litter from the college lawns.

During the event, Manjeet Kaur Sangha, head, departments of biochemistry and chemistry highlighted the significance of maintaining a clean environment. Sangha added, “ Plastic pollution affects not only humans but also endangered other species on our planet.”
Accounting PAU, PhD students Komal Singh and Sukhman delivered informative talks at the event. They discussed the detrimental effects of environmental pollution caused by plastics and outlined various steps to mitigate this issue.
Mehak Aggarwal proposed a vote of thanks and said that this initiative embodied the spirit of Swachhata hi Seva. Aggarwal emphasised the importance of collective efforts to protect our environment and make our earth cleaner and more sustainable for all.

As per the government of India's swachh bharat mission, " Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign is being celebrated from September 15 to October 2 this year under the joint aegis of DDWS and MoHUA for undertaking shramdaan activities aiming to generate jan andolan through community participation; to provide impetus on implementation of SBM; to disseminate the importance of a sampoorna swachh village; to reinforce the concept of Sanitation as everyone’s business; and as a prelude for the Swachh Bharat Diwas (2nd October) with nationwide participation."
The theme of SHS 2023 is 'Garbage Free India' with focus on visual cleanliness and welfare of 'SafaiMitras'.
The focus of these swachhata drives would be on public places like bus stands, railway stations, cantonment boards, beaches, tourist places, zoos, national parks and sanctuaries, historical monuments, heritage sites, river fronts, ghats, drains and nallahs etc. in both rural and urban areas of state and union territories.
