New Delhi: Despite COVID-19's impact on the economy, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has had a successful placement season with its undergraduate and postgraduate students receiving over 1,100 job offers in 2019-20. This is more than last year's.
The placement number included multiple job offers and pre-placement offers for students in national and international organizations. The second phase of the placements were conducted online due to the coronavirus outbreak.
This means 85.6 percent of undergraduate and postgraduate students who had joined the placement exercise were placed, according to an IIT Delhi statement, with the rest opting higher studies, research, civil services examination or launching their own start-ups.
Two phases
In the first phase, over 430 organizations registered for the placement season offering over 600 job profiles.
The second phase of the placement continued in online mode as the educational institutions were shut. Around 100 students bagged job offers during this online phase.
“This year, it was observed that the number of placement offers increased by 4 percent. This became possible because of the teamwork, dynamic strategy and knowing the skills of students and the various profiles of core companies,” said S Dharmaraja, head, Office of Career Services, IIT Delhi.
