PM Modi to lay foundation stone of AIIMS Madurai soon

NEW DELHI, October 13: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will soon come up in Madurai at the cost of worth Rs. 1200 crore, said Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda. Talking to a reporter, while making his headway to Puducherry for JIPMER convocation, he said that all the formalities regarding AIIMS institute have been completed and it will be passed by Cabinet.

He also enunciated that the Prime Minister of India will soon come to lay the foundation stone for setting up AIIMS, Madurai.

He also informed about the three super specialty blocks which have been constructed in Madurai, Thanjavur and Tirunelveli at a cost of Rs. 150 crore each. These complexes will be inaugurated soon, he added. “Two days ago, I had the opportunity to meet Tamil Nadu Health Minister Dr. C. Vijayabaskar along with the State health secretary and today met BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan.”, he said.

Also, he mentioned about the construction of Medipark (medical park), India’s first medical technology manufacturing cluster. With this medipark, the government is aiming to produce low cost diagnostic devices and ensure that delivery of affordable health care was nearing the final stage. “We will request the Prime Minster Mr. Narendra Modi to inaugurate it also.” he further added.

Central Government is concerned for the people of Tamil Nadu and all the health projects of central and state governments have been cleared. “We are working very aggressively so that the people of Tamil Nadu get the benefits out of it.” he said.

Earlier on June 20, 2018, the Chief Minister, K. Palaniswami, announced the establishment of AIIMS, Madurai and thanked PM Modi for selecting Thoppur for this purpose. He also stated that with 250 bedroom facility, AIIMS, Madurai will be set up at an estimate of Rs. 1500 crore. Besides this, 100 seats from Madurai institution will also be granted to AIIMS MBBS qualified aspirants.
