President Droupadi Murmu inaugurates IIMC Aizawl campus

On her visit to Mizoram, the President attended the 17th convocation of Mizoram University and inaugurated IIMC's north east campus.
NEW DELHI: President of India, Droupadi Murmu attended the 17th convocation of Mizoram University (MU) today at Aizawl. She inaugurates the north-eastern regional campus of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in virtual mode on her visit to Mizoram.
IIMC is an autonomous institute under the ministry of information and broadcast. The northeast campus started its functioning back in 2011 when it was a temporary building made available by Mizoram University. The construction work for this campus began in 2015 and finished in 2019 costing Rs 25 crores. The IIMC now has a permanent campus spanning across 8 acres of land given by MU and has separate administrative and academic buildings along with hostels and staff quarters.

The north east campus, from its inception has been offering a PG diploma course in English journalism that accepts students from across India. It also enables students to secure employment in reputed media organisations across the country through campus placements and their own efforts.
For the 2022-23 session, the north east campus has been chosen to start PG diploma course in digital media along with two other IIMC campuses. The institute has expanded and has institutionalized 5 regional campuses in different part of the country.
While addressing the convocation, President Droupadi Murmu said: "I am happy to inaugurate the permanent campus of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Aizawl which will be a boost to the media and mass communication studies in the entire North-East. IIMC is an esteemed institution which provides a dynamic learning and working environment which nurtures new ideas, creativity, research and develops leaders and innovators in the domain of media and mass communication."
