Punjab schools up to Class 10 closed till January 14 due to cold weather

Punjab Schools: In an official statement, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the step was necessary in the larger interest of school-going children.
NEW DELHI: The Punjab government on Sunday ordered the closure of all schools up to Class 10 class till January 14 in the wake of severe cold weather conditions prevailing in the region. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in an official statement said that the step was necessary in the larger interest of school-going children.
"In view of the inclement weather conditions in the region, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has ordered that all the government, government-aided and private schools in the state up to Class 10 will remain closed from January 8-14," CM said.

Punjab continued to face cold weather conditions on Sunday, with morning fog causing reduced visibility in various areas. According to the weather department, Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of 5.8 degrees Celsius.
Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, Bathinda, Faridkot, and Gurdaspur also experienced chilly nights, registering minimum temperatures ranging from 6 to 7 degrees Celsius.
Earlier today, Delhi government extended winter vacation in schools for students from Nursery to Class 5 due to the prevailing severe cold weather conditions.
"Schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next five days due to the prevailing cold weather conditions, for students from Nursery to Class 5," Education Minister Atishi Marlena said on X.

Other cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) have also directed schools under their jurisdiction to close. The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration on Saturday ordered all schools in Noida and Greater Noida to remain shut up to Class 8 till January 14.
