Punjabi University student in first Indian team to win gold at World Archery Championship

NEW DELHI: The Punjabi University congratulated its student Parneet Kaur, along with archers Jyothi Surekha and Aditi Gopichand Swami, for clinching the gold medal in compound team event at the World archery championship held at Berlin.
The Indian compound women team in a closely contested final outperformed Mexico 235-229. The Indian contingent was seeded second in the women championship.

The trio started taking the lead from the first round wherein they scored 59 out of 60 points. They repeated the same score in the next two rounds, taking the score 177-172 after the third round. Meanwhile, the Mexican contingent of Dafne Quintero, Ana Sofia Hernandez Jeon and Andrea Becerra, scored 57, 58 and 57 in the first three rounds, respectively.
To reach the final, the Indian contingent defeated Chile 220-216 in the semifinal and Chinese Taipei 228-226 in the quarterfinals.
The Punjabi University took to twitter to congratulate the compound women team. It congratulated the team and the sporting staff.
Paneet Kaur finished sixth in the compound women’s event, where Aditi Swami bagged the gold medal while their teammate Jyothi Surekha clinched the bronze. Mexico’s Andrea Becerra finished second on the podium.

The impressive performance of the Indian team at the event has raised medal hopes for the Paris Olympics, 2024. The Indian team finished first at the World Archery Championship 2023. They bagged three gold and a bronze medal. In the compound men’s event, Ojas Pravon Deotale defeated Lukasz Przybylski of Poland in the final to bag the gold medal.
This is the first time that the Indian contingent has topped the table at the World Archery Championship since it started in 1981.
