QS Quacquarelli Symonds has published the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, the largest-ever exercise, assessing 21,049 programmes across 1,967 institutions in 100 higher education systems. According to the latest data, Indian institutes have once again made a strong mark globally.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has secured the 36th spot globally in the engineering and technology category, leading India’s performance in the latest rankings. IIT Bombay followed at 42, while IIT Madras ranked 62. Meanwhile, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Kanpur were placed at 64 and 84, respectively, in the same category.
The latest rankings once again highlight the strong presence of IITs in global higher education, particularly in the science and technology domain, reinforcing their leadership in India’s academic landscape.
The ranking of Indian Institutes in engineering & technology category are given below:

In the arts and humanities category, University of Delhi secured 231th rank by scoring 66.2. The Jawaharlal Nehru University ranked 260th with a score of 65.3, while O.P. Jindal Global University stood at 323rd with 63.7. IIT Bombay was placed 345th with a score of 63.1.
In the life sciences & medicine category, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) secured the 217th rank with a score of 67.3. In the natural sciences category, IIT Bombay ranked 78th with an overall score of 77.6, while IIT Delhi secured the 91st rank with a score of 76.8, followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) at 125th with a score of 74.9.
In the social sciences and management category, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad secured the 66th rank with an overall score of 75.6. IIT Delhi ranked 84th with a score of 73.9, followed by IIT Bombay at 105th with a score of 72. Further, the University of Delhi was placed 177th with a score of 68.9, while Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta ranked 178th with 68.8, and IIT Kharagpur stood at 196th with a score of 68.1.
