Rabindranath Tagore University has suspended its deputy registrar with immediate effect over allegations of submitting a fake academic degree to secure and continue the post, the Assam Tribune reported.
The suspension order against Shekhar Kanti Sarkar, deputy registrar of the Rabindranath Tagore University, was issued after he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation to an earlier notice regarding alleged fraudulent academic documents, the report said, citing official sources.
Manabendra Dutta Choudhury, vice chancellor of the university, said that the institute has followed a strict policy in dealing with the matter, the report added.
“The matter relating to the submission of alleged fake educational qualification certificates had also been reflected on the university’s official website. In this connection, a notice was reportedly issued online by the relevant committee of the university,” Choudhury said in the report.
Moreover, Sarkar is also under the radar regarding financial irregularities committed during his tenure, the report said. The university management committee conducted several meetings on the matter in detail and the minutes of those meetings were updated in the university’s official portal, the report added, according to the VC.
In addition, a few days ago, the university held a discussion in accordance with rules and procedures and the authorities scrutinized all the documents before announcing the decision, it said.
“The Vice Chancellor said the suspension was ordered after careful scrutiny of available records and in compliance with institutional norms, and further action will be taken based on due process,” the report further said.
