Rajasthan medical colleges to offer MBBS curriculum in Hindi starting 2024-25

The initiative will start at Dr Sampurnanand Medical College, Jodhpur, and Barmer Medical College, both affiliated with Marwar Medical University.

NEW DELHI: The Rajasthan government has announced that medical education in the state’s medical colleges will now be available in Hindi as well. On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, the Medical Education Department announced the introduction of medical education in Hindi medium.

Principal Secretary of the Medical Education Department, Gayatri Rathore, said that the first phase of this initiative will be implemented at Dr Sampurnanand Medical College, Jodhpur, and Barmer Medical College, affiliated with Marwar Medical University. Students enrolling in the academic session 2024-25 at these institutions will have the option to choose either English or Hindi as their medium of instruction.

Medical Education Commissioner Iqbal Khan highlighted that students from rural backgrounds or those who had studied in Hindi medium often faced challenges with medical courses conducted in English.

The Medical Education Department stated that this new initiative aims to address these challenges and provide better support for such students. The Medical Education Department further informed that this facility will soon be introduced in other medical colleges as well.

Other states that offers MBBS courses in Hindi medium

Madhya Pradesh was the first state to launch medical education in Hindi. The pilot project for the MBBS course in Hindi began at Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal. Chhattisgarh has recently informed that it will also offer the MBBS course in Hindi from the ongoing academic session.

"Our government has taken a big decision on Hindi Diwas. The MBBS course will now also be taught in Hindi. Books in Hindi will be introduced in the first year from this session (2024-25). The health department has been asked to arrange books and study materials," Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said.
