Republic Day 2022 Celebration: Nearly 24,000 people will be permitted to attend the R-Day parade this year given the COVID-19 situation in Delhi.
NEW DELHI: India will celebrate the 73rd Republic Day tomorrow, January 26, 2022. Approximately 24,000 people will be permitted to attend the Republic Day parade this year given the COVID-19 situation in the national capital.
In 2020, before the pandemic struck India, around 1.25 lakh people were permitted to attend the parade. Last year's Republic Day parade took place amid the Covid pandemic and close to 25,000 people were allowed to attend it.

This year's Republic Day parade will have 16 marching contingents, 17 military bands and 25 tableaux of various states, departments and armed forces, the Indian Army said in a statement on Saturday, the PTI reported.
Overall, there will be 16 marching contingents from armed forces, central paramilitary forces, Delhi Police, National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS) along with 17 military bands, pipes and drum bands at the parade, the report said.
Two Param Vir Chakra awardees and one Ashok Chakra awardee will also participate in this year's parade. Before the commencement of the Republic Day parade 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay homage to the soldiers by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial.

Republic Day Parade 2022
Republic Day Parade 2022 will begin at 10.30 am and end at 12 noon, as per the report. Twenty-five tableaux of various states, departments and armed forces will be part of the Republic Day celebration. Two teams -- one male team of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and one female team of Border Security Officer (BSF) -- will do the motorcycle display.
Lieutenant General Vijay Kumar Mishra, General Officer Commanding Delhi Area, will be the parade commander and Major General Alok Kacker, Chief of Staff Delhi Area, will be the second-in-command of the parade, the report added.
R-Day parade 2022 will march from Vijay Chowk to the National Stadium through the traditional route of Rajpath.
Today, President Ram Nath Kovind will address the nation on the eve of the 73rd Republic Day, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique issued on Monday night said. The address will be broadcast from 7 pm on the entire national network of All India Radio (AIR) and telecast over all channels of Doordarshan in Hindi followed by the English version, it said.
