New Delhi, September 18: In a revolutionary move, the Government has decided to open Sainik schools for girls. The all-boys Sainik schools will begin the admission process for girls from 2021. The government has already told the schools to develop necessary infrastructure such as medical facilities for girls.
As per a source from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, ‘Once all Sainik Schools have the required infrastructure to induct girls, the admission process will begin’.
The Sainik Schools are the feeder institutions that prepare future Army personals. Currently, girls of school staff got admissions in the school. The idea of giving admission to girls in Sainik Schools experimented in Chhingchhip in Mizoram and Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh last year. After the successful implementation in these places, the government will induct girls in all Sainik schools across the nation.
According to a Sainik school teacher from Chhattisgarh “We have already been told by the state government to start preparations for (creating) infrastructure for girls and the plan is to start the admission most likely within two years.”
There are presently 32 Sainik schools all over India, wherein most schools are located in Haryana. Two schools each in Jhunjhunu (Rajasthan) and East Siang (Arunachal Pradesh) are to be set up soon.
