In a first, Allahabad University reappoints Vice-Chancellor Sangita Srivastava for second term

The University of Allahabad (UoA) has re-appointed professor Sangita Srivastava as the Vice-Chancellor for a second five-year term. This is the first time that the university has appointed its VC for the second consecutive year.

Professor Sangita Srivastava’s new tenure took effect from September 16, 2026, and will continue for the next five years or until she attains the age of 70, whichever is earlier.

According to the official notification, the appointment was approved by the President of India Droupadi Murmu as the visitor of Allahabad University.

The education ministry issued a letter to the university on September 22, stating that the President had appointed professor Srivastava as vice-chancellor for the second term.

Allabahad University's new Vice-Chancellor

The VC took charge of the Allahabad University on November 30, 2020 and became the first woman to hold the post and the first faculty member of the university to become its VC after it received Central University status, as per various media reports.

According to a report by TOI, 377 faculty members and 616 non-teaching staff were appointed during the VC’s tenure, while promotions were given to approximately 1,000 employees.

Recently, the university announced admissions for its PhD programmes and notified candidates that the application window will be closed on September 25.

Candidates who fulfill the required eligibility criteria can apply for PhD admission on the official website at allduniv.ac.in.

Allahabad University offers PhD programmes across various streams, including law, science, commerce, history, and more. Seats will be allotted as per the reservation criteria rules set by the Government of India and the UGC.
