Education ministry announces new vice-chancellor appointments across central universities

The Ministry of Education (MoE), the department of higher education has appointed new vice-chancellors at eastern and north-eastern universities across the country. The new appointments have been made at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) in Arunachal Pradesh, Central University of Odisha, Tripura University, and Sindhu Central University.

Education ministry has also re-appointed Yogesh Singh as the vice-chancellor of the University of Delhi (DU) for a second term of five years, effective from October 8, 2026. Singh is the 23rd VC of DU and assumed the charge on October 8, 2021.

New vice-chancellor appointments

The new appointments by MoE are briefly mentioned below.

RGU Arunachal Pradesh

The education ministry has appointed retired chemistry professor of Osmania University Hyderabad, Shivaraj, as VC of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) in Arunachal Pradesh for a term of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office or until the age of 70 years.

Central University of Odisha

MoE has appointed Ajit Kumar Shasany, the director of CSIR National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, as the vice-chancellor of the Central University of Odisha for a term of five years.

Tripura University, Agartala

Debabrata Das, the advisor of the higher education department, government of Assam, has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of Tripura University for a five-year term.

Sindhu Central University (SCU) Ladakh

In a letter to the directors of IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, the education ministry has informed the appointment of Rajeev Rattan Sharma, of the University of Jammu, as the first vice-chancellor of the University for a term of five years.

According to the official MoE statements, the terms of all appointments are from the date on which new VCs enter office or until they attain the age of70 years, whichever is earlier.
