SBI contributes Rs 10 crore to support education of children of war veterans: Report

NEW DELHI: The State Bank of India has contributed Rs 10 crore to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund (AFFDF) to support the armed forces of the nation, the Times of India reported.

SBI will sign an agreement with the Kendriya Sainik Board to support and educate the children of war veterans, ex-military men, and war widows, the report said.

“At #SBI, we stand strong with the children of our brave hearts who sacrificed their lives to protect our motherland. Jai Jawan! #ArmedForceFlagDay #AzadiKaAmritMahotsavWithSBI,” SBI said in a tweet.

“We express our gratitude to soldiers who valiantly safeguard our nation and protect its citizens despite facing enormous hardships. We believe our efforts will help make a difference in the lives of the war veterans and their families,” Dinesh Khara, chairman of SBI was quoted as saying.

Even last year, the bank had donated Rs 10 crore to the fund to support the education of girl children of the war veterans, the report said.

On the Armed Forces Flag Day which is celebrated on December 7 every year, the Indian Air Force invited people to contribute to the fund and said in a tweet: “Since 1949, 07 Dec is observed as the Armed Forces Flag Day to honour our soldiers, sailors and airmen and express gratitude for their service to the Nation. Let's contribute to the success of this day. #HarKaamDeshKeNaam #AFFD2020”

Union home minister, Amit Shah also urged to contribute to the fund and tweeted: “I bow to the exceptional courage and commitment of our armed forces on the ‘Armed Forces Flag Day and extend my greetings to our armed forces personnel and their families. My appeal to everyone to contribute towards the welfare of our forces and their families at the #AFFD Fund.”
