SFI, AISA, KYS protest outside Israeli embassy; activists detained

NEW DELHI: Students’ Federation of India (SFI), All India Students’ Association (AISA) and Krantikari Yuva Sangathan held a protest outside the Israeli embassy in solidarity with Palestine here today. The Delhi Police, which maintained a heavy deployment at the embassy, detained several protesting students.

The student organisation claimed that Delhi Police “attacked and brutally” detained the activists. AISA Delhi leader Abhigyan said “We had gathered to protest the relentless attack of Israel on Gaza strip. The Delhi Police hurled abuses and thrashed the protesters. Even girls and women were not spared. The students have been detained in a brutal manner.”

SFI Delhi in a press statement said, “The protest was organised to demand humanitarian intervention from the union government as well as the governments of other countries.”

The SFI added that the police brutally detained its president VP Sanu, vice president Nitheesh Narayan, joint secretary Adarsh Saji, Abhijit CEC member, SFI Delhi president Aishe Ghosh and other activists.

KYS said activists and common citizens were brutally detained by the Delhi Police and not allowed to hold the protest demonstration.

SFI Delhi condemns the police action on students standing in solidarity with Palestine and also condemns the Indian government's weak international stance and “their favour of Israeli human rights violation in the Gaza strip”.

The student organisations had called a protest at the Israeli embassy at 2 PM today. They claimed that Israel was following a policy of apartheid against the Palestinian people. “It is bombing hospitals and refugee camps, which have led to the killing of children,” an AISA poster said.

KYS activist Bhim Kumar said, “The recent support by the union government to Israel is completely misplaced. People through this protest demonstrated that they do not stand with the ruling BJP regime’s eschewing of the Palestine issue.”

The AISA had also organised a protest at Jantar Mantar in solidarity with Palestinians on October 17. The protest had met with strong police vigil.
