SFI wins student council elections at Ambedkar University Delhi

NEW DELHI: The Students' Federation of India has won the student council elections 2026 at Dr B R Ambedkar University (AUD), describing the victory as a "decisive rejection of anti-student agenda pursued by the administration".

At the Kashmere Gate campus of the Ambedkar University Delhi, SFI has secured the support of 13 councillors, thereby securing a majority in the 25-member council, emerging as the winner for the fourth consecutive time, the student organisation said in a statement on Thursday.

"AUD student elections are conducted in two tiers. In tier one, the councillors are chosen, and then in tier two, the student organisation securing the support of the majority of councillors wins," explained Sooraj Elamon, president of Delhi SFI unit, adding,

SFI secures 21 seats across AUD campuses

"This is the fourth consecutive time that SFI has won the majority of councillor support." Elamon added that in the Karampura campus, SFI has delivered an equally impressive performance, winning five out of the seven seats it contested.

"In the Lodhi Road campus, SFI has won three out of four seats in the council. Altogether, SFI has secured 21 seats across Ambedkar University Delhi, far ahead of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), All India Students' Association (AISA), and other student groups on campus," the statement said.

The student organisation described this victory as a "decisive rejection of anti-student agenda pursued by the administration". Last year, the administration expelled eight students, who were also SFI activists, following a protest on the campus.

"Since the inception of student council elections in 2018, SFI has remained the dominant force in AUD, consistently winning the mandate of the students and sweeping all elections held so far," SFI further added.
