IIAS: Indian Institute of Advanced Study's seminar was held aiming to examine the interconnections between the two fields from a multidisciplinary perspective
SHIMLA: A two-day national seminar exploring the integration of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) with Artificial Intelligence (AI) commenced at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) at Rashtrapati Nivas here on Thursday. The seminar, titled "Indian Knowledge System and Artificial Intelligence: Integrating Indigenous Wisdom with Emerging Technologies", aims to examine the interconnections between the two fields from a multidisciplinary perspective.
It will deliberate on the relevance of Indian philosophical, ethical, linguistic, environmental, and cultural traditions in contemporary technological developments, organisers said.
Delivering the keynote address online, Dr Priyanka Tripathi, Associate Professor at IIT Patna, emphasised the need to align technological progress with ethical responsibility. "As AI assumes an increasingly important role across different spheres of life, a critical question is how technological progress can be aligned with ethical responsibility, human sensitivity, and social welfare," she said.
Tripathi noted that issues such as algorithmic bias, transparency, accountability, and equitable access to technology underscore the need for serious reflection on the use of AI.
The first day of the seminar featured three academic sessions focusing on environmental sustainability, arts and cultural heritage, and the ethical foundations of AI. The deliberations will also cover traditional health knowledge, linguistic traditions, and cultural heritage in relation to modern technology.
