SRMIST hosts general meeting of INSA; over 200 fellows, researchers, innovators participate

NEW DELHI: The 90th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) brought together prominent scientists from across India, as well as experts from various industries. The event was inaugurated by P Sathyanarayanan, pro-chancellor (academics) of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), who expressed his gratitude to INSA for hosting the meeting at SRMIST.

In his address, Sathyanarayanan highlighted India’s rich legacy in research and innovation, particularly in fields such as mathematics, astronomy, and metallurgy. He emphasized the nation's culture of innovation and the vital role of education in driving prosperity, urging further support for start-ups.

In his presidential address, Ashutosh Sharma, president of INSA, discussed the “Structure and Processes of S & T and the Question of Sustainability.” He explored key challenges facing the field of science and technology, its strengths and weaknesses, and the need for new approaches to address these challenges. The event provided a platform for India’s leading scientific minds to come together, celebrate achievements, and engage in discussions on the future of science and technology in the country.

Scientists, industrialists take part

The two-day event saw the participation of over 200 attendees, including INSA Fellows, early-career researchers, young innovators, and other members of India's scientific community. Distinguished guests included Anil Kakodkar, chancellor of Homi Bhabha National Institute; V K Saraswat, member of NITI Aayog; S Somanath, chairman of the space commission and ISRO; S V Kamat, secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and chairman of DRDO; Krishna M Ella, executive chairman of Bharat Biotech; K N Sivarajan, Chief Technology Officer of Tejas Networks; Abhay Bang, founder director of SEARCH; and S Kris Gopalakrishnan, chairman of Axilor Ventures, among others.

The programme included the council meeting, lectures by newly elected fellows and foreign fellows, INSA distinguished lectures, and presentations from INSA young associates, associate fellows, and history of science young associates. The AGM also featured the induction of new Fellows and the felicitation of outgoing Council members for their significant contributions to the Academy. Additionally, the 90th Annual General Meeting abstracts of INSA were released during the event.
