States, UTs to design road map for vaccination of teaching, non teaching staff: Education Ministry

NEW DELHI: The Department of School Education and Literacy (DOSEL) has asked the states and Union Territories to design a road map at the district level for vaccination of teaching and non-teaching staff, the education ministry said in a statement.

Anita Karwal, secretary of school education and literacy held a meeting today on the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) guidelines on school safety. During the meeting, they also discussed the matter of vaccination of teaching and non-teaching staff in the schools.

While discussing the issue, Karwal advised the states and Union Territories to have all the teaching and non-teaching staff vaccinated with the first dose of COVID-19 during the month of September.

“Those teaching and non teaching staff who have already received the first dose should be followed up rigorously for the second dose,” Karwal stated.

Further, Anita Karwal asked the health and education secretaries of all the states and UTs to make a set of instructions to vaccinate all the staff.

According to the official statement, the DOSEL is acquiring information on a weekly basis on vaccination of the teaching and non-teaching staff in the states and UTs through a tracker.

Several state governments have decided to reopen schools and resume physical classes for different classes in their respective states. The governments have asked the officials to ensure vaccination of the teaching and non-teaching staff, on priority, before reopening of schools.

Recently, the Odisha government issued guidelines on special COVID-19 vaccination campaign for teaching and non-teaching staff.

The Maharashtra government also announced a special vaccination camp for the teaching, non-teaching staff of schools in Thane.
