Students body demands OBC quota in Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University PhD admission

NEW DELHI: The All India OBC Students’ Association has demanded Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation in PhD admissions at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow. The university has invited online applications for admission in the PhD programme for the academic session 2021-22.

The Students’ Association highlighted in a tweet that the brochure released by the university shows the university has not reserved any PhD seat for OBC students even while Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) reservation has been implemented.

Of 245 total seats in the PhD programme, 112 seats are for General category, 78 for Scheduled Caste (SC), 40 for Scheduled Tribe (ST), and 15 seats for EWS category.

The Association urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ministry of Education, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and tweeted: “Why no OBC reservations in Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University @BbauSocialmedia PhD admissions? Even EWS reservations are implemented. #ImplementOBCReservations in BBAU PhD admissions.”

According to the official notification shared by the Students’ Body, the university will conduct an entrance test for PhD admissions. BBAU opened the portal for registration on February 15. Candidates will be able to apply till March 6. The last date to submit the fee for the entrance test is March 8.

BBAU said that the schedule of the PhD entrance test and details of exam centres will be informed later to students.
