Study Abroad: 90 students receive KC Mahindra scholarship for PG programmes

Study Abroad Scholarships: The top 3 recipients studying at Harvard, Stanford, and Princeton will get Rs 10 lakh each. IITs, NITs, DU graduates applied.

NEW DELHI: 90 students received the KC Mahindra scholarship for post graduate studies abroad. The KC Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) awarded scholarships worth Rs 337 lakh, in total, to the students under the scholarship established by the late K C Mahindra in 1953. It is an interest-free loan which is granted to students demonstrating outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements.

The top recipients of the scholarship are Raj Patel who will be pursuing finance at Princeton University; Asmita Sood who will be studying biomedical data science at Stanford University; and Savalee Tikle who will be pursuing architecture at Harvard University. The top three fellows will receive scholarships of Rs 10 lakh each. 55 awardees will get Rs 5 lakh each and 32 fellows will be given Rs 1 lakh each to support their education abroad.

The trust informed that for the first time in its history, every participant who appeared for the interview will receive a scholarship, underscoring the exceptional quality and talent of this year’s cohort.

A total of 2,354 students applied for the study abroad scholarship this year. Of these, 90 applicants attended the interviews conducted over two days. The selection panel included Anand Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra Group; Ranjan Pant, board member at Mahindra and Mahindra; Rucha Nanavati, Chief Information Officer at Mahindra Group; Bharat Doshi, trustee of KCMET; Ulhas Yargop, trustee of KCMET; and Indu Shahani, president and chancellor of Atlas SkillTech University.

Study Abroad Scholarships: IIT, NIT, DU graduates among winners

The shortlisted candidates comprised 29 Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) graduates, and others from top institutes such as Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Lady Shri Ram (LSR) College; Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture and Environmental Studies; National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani and National law schools.

The selected candidates have secured admission to the top-ranking universities and colleges overseas, KCMET informed. 13 candidates grabbed admissions at Harvard and Stanford; eight at Carnegie Mellon; six each at Oxford and University of Pennsylvania; five each at Columbia and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); three each at Yale, University of Chicago, John Hopkins and Cambridge; two each at Princeton, Georgia Tech and University of California, Berkeley amongst others.

Speaking about the scholarship, Anand Mahindra said, “It's an enriching experience to engage with some of the brightest young minds in India through the KCMET Post Graduate Studies Abroad Scholarship, something I eagerly look forward to every year.
