NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 22- Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) & National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will shortly launch an online aptitude test ‘Tamanna’ to help Class 9th & 10th students in making a better choice of subjects. This test will enable students to decide a better career option for them by knowing their strong areas.

Tamanna - An Aptitude Test for Senior School Students, refers to Try And Measure Aptitude And Natural Abilities. The test will help students shortlist career options after passing their board examination.
CBSE conducted piloting of the test with 17,000 students of Class 9th & 10th across the country.
Principal of Delhi Public School, Sector 40, Reema Dewan said: “The exercise is known as ‘Know Your Aptitude’ (KYA). The preparing authority is the NCERT and the controlling authority is the CBSE. They also plan to train some teachers who can assess the test. The initiative is to make sure that Class IX and X students know their strengths and weakness. The test will be self-analysis of sorts so that students choose the right subject.”
Tamanna is an online aptitude test that covers 07 sections- Language Aptitude (LA), Abstract Reasoning (AR), Verbal Reasoning (VR), Mechanical Reasoning (MR), Numerical Aptitude (NA), Spatial Aptitude (SA) and Perceptual Aptitude (PA). The board instructed to follow the guideline available for teachers and parents on the official website of NCERT, ncert.nic.in.
LA helps in analysing student’s ability to use and understand written language. Students scoring good marks in this section can opt for Teaching, Law, Journalism, Advertising, library science, stenography, etc.
AR tests a student’s ability of logical and analytical thinking. Students who score high in this section can select Mathematics, architecture, forensic science, computer programming as their career.
VR evaluates one’s ability to reason concepts expressed in words. The career options for students who get good marks in this part are Psychology, public relations, linguistic, speech therapist, auctioneering.
MR tests a student’s ability to apply mechanical concepts and solve problems. Students score high in this section can opt for Engineering, carpentry, machine operator, electrician as their career.
NA helps in analysing a student’s ability to do mathematical operations quickly and accurately. Students score high in this section can opt for Oceanography, bioscience, meteorology, statistics, banking.
SA evaluates one’s ability to judge how an object would look like when constructed in a given way. The career options for students who get good marks in this part are Designing, animation, urban planning, multimedia, astronomy.
PA evaluates the ability of students to meaningfully compare visual information. The career options for students who get good marks in this part are Police detectives, data entry, dispatching, bank-teller, assembly work.
The test comes with a note for students, teachers and parents that this aptitude test should be used to the know the strengths of students and there is no pass or fail in this test. The test should be taken voluntarily by interested students and must not be used to impose any subject, courses of study and/or vocations etc. on the students.
