Technical glitches in DU exam results cause concern; students say most issues resolved over time

NEW DELHI: Some students at Delhi University (DU), particularly from Kamala Nehru College (KNC), recently flagged issues related to their examination results -- some were incorrectly marked absent, others received 'ER' or 'Essential Repeat' grades. While it caused a temporary concern, most students confirmed that their problems were resolved. They did, however, point to technical glitches and hoped for a better system for exam results.

"I got ER in my generic elective paper called 'Nationalism in India' last year in second semester. Now I am in second year, fourth semester and yet the problem has not been resolved despite requesting the authorities to correct the mistake," said a second-year student from Kamala Nehru College (KNC). "I appeared for the exam, still I have been marked absent in the marksheet. For the past six months, I have been made to run from pillar to post and have also submitted proof of my presence during the exam but no correction has been made," the student added.

Concerns over exam issues raised

KNC professor Monami Sinha, a member of the DU Academic Council, wrote to DU Controller of Examinations Professor Gurpreet Singh raising concerns about recurring problems related to examination forms and delayed revaluation results. She cited an earlier instance where a delay in revaluation impacted students' admission to postgraduate programmes. "We must streamline the system to avoid such stress for students," she wrote. However, several KNC students who were contacted by PTI confirmed that their results had been corrected and described the situation as a "temporary glitch".

"The portal had an error, but it was fixed after some follow-up," said one student. Such issues are not uncommon and are usually resolved on a case-by-case basis, Professor Tuteja told PTI. "I have invited the concerned professor from KNC to look into the matter. The university administration is committed to resolving genuine issues without delay." Professor Abha Dev Habib, Associate Professor at Miranda House and Secretary of the Democratic Teachers' Front, told PTI that while some errors do occur, they are usually technical and not widespread.

Teachers struggling with multiple roles

"Teachers are stretched thin between teaching, invigilation, and evaluation. With CUET-based admissions delaying the academic calendar, things are a bit off-track. But most issues are minor and get resolved with time," she explained. A DU faculty member, speaking on condition of anonymity, acknowledged the pressure caused by overlapping duties and the centralised evaluation system.

"These are not major systemic issues. They affect a small number of students. However, all such problems must be resolved as no student should face such unnecessary problems," the teacher said. While the university continues to face logistical challenges due to staggered academic calendars and evolving examination systems, students and faculty agree that most result-related glitches are technical in nature and hope for betterment of the system as soon as possible.
