Telangana demands IIM in Hyderabad

NEW DELHI, FEB 21: Telangana has demanded to set an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Hyderabad. Kadiyam Srihari, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister of the newly formed state during his meeting with the Union Human Resource Development Minister, Prakash Javadekar raised the demand.
Srihari submitted the proposal on behalf of the state government during the meeting to submit the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) sub-committee report on girl child education to the Union HRD Minister, reported ToI. Srihari was heading the CABE sub-Committee on girl child education.
As part of the state bifurcation plan, Centre approved for the establishment of several centrally run institutions like IIT, IIM, IISER, Central University in the Andhra Pradesh as the majority of technical institutions were left in Telangana.
However, Srihari since the formation of the new state has been demanding an IIM for Telangana.
During meeting with the Minister, he also further proposed to set-up Gurukul schools for girls belonging to scheduled caste, scheduled tribe in Telangana. Javadekar responded positively to the CABE sub-committee recommendation.
