The Telangana Senior Resident Doctors Association (T-SRDA) has announced a state-wide strike starting from July 1 onwards, due to non-payment of stipend over the past three months, and delay in issuance of the government order for hike.

A government order related to a stipend hike for the senior resident doctors has been pending since six months. An extension GO, that is essential for the continuity of the senior residents’ tenure, has also not been issued yet.

The senior doctors will protest regarding the negligence of their ‘legitimate’ demands, despite multiple dialogues with the authorities over the past few months.

Telangana resident doctors protest is because of the financial strain on doctors working in government medical colleges and hospitals, who have not been paid their due stipends for several months.

T-SRDA key demands

The strike will begin on July 1, and is slated to go on until the resident doctors’ stipend is released fully. The resident doctors have also included the stipend hike GO in their list of demands, and asked for their stipend to be increased and arrears to be paid.

During the T-SRDA strike over stipend non-payment, the emergency medical services will not be stopped. But the strike will continue until all the demands are met, the official T-SRDA said.

T-SRDA has urged the government to resolve the issue on a priority basis to avoid any disruption in healthcare delivery and ensure the well-being of the doctors who are the backbone of the public health system.
