Tripura government extends school holidays till May 1 due to heatwave

NEW DELHI: The Tripura government has further extended the school holidays for another three days till May 1. The holidays has been extended in all schools due to the ongoing heatwave across the state. Earlier, the government declared the closure of all the schools- government, government-aided, and privately managed ones from April 23 to 28, 2024.
The closure, effective from April 29 to May 1 aims to safeguard students and staff from the adverse effects of the intense heatwave.
“In continuation of the earlier Memo of even number dated 23.04.2024, due to perpetuation of scorching heat wave throughout the state, it has been decided that all the Government & Government Aided Schools under Education ( School) Department, Govt. of Tripura, Schools under TTAADC and Privately Managed Schools will remain closed for more 3 ( three) days w.e.f. 29/04/2024 to 01/05/2024,” read the official notification.

District Education Officers have swiftly been assigned the responsibility of spreading this instruction to every school under their jurisdiction. This proactive step highlights the government's dedication to putting the safety and welfare of students first, especially during adverse weather situations.
Closure aims to safeguard students, staff
Although the closure might cause interruptions to the usual academic schedule, officials stress that the health and safety of students are of utmost importance. The government has urged parents and guardians to make sure their children stay hydrated, find shelter from the sun, and take necessary measures to minimise the impact of the heatwave.
As per the Meteorological department's forecast, the heatwave is expected to persist over the next few days. On Sunday, the state registered a peak temperature of 37 degrees Celsius.
