NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission has asked universities and higher education institutions (HIEs) to actively participate in the e-pledge on the occasion of Khadi Mahotsav.
The UGC said the Khadi and Village Industries Commission concluded the Khadi Mahotsav on October 31. The commission has launched an ePledge QR code in order to increase participation, especially in the e-Pledge and other activities. The QR code can be downloaded on MyGov portal.
The UGC said that activities such as quiz contest, selfie with ‘khadi’, video game Competition, jingle-making contest, essay-writing, slogan-writing and others are being conducted by the Khadi Commission. Those interested in the contests can participate through the official website, mygov.in/campaign/khadi-mahotsav.
“Khadi Mahotsav aims at sensitising citizens, particularly students and youth, to make them aware of the importance of khadi, handloom and other local products for our economy, ecology, women empowerment and to encourage them to adopt them,” the UGC said.
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission has also started various initiatives such as khadi yatras, and marketing campaigns to spread awareness and sensitisation regarding the product. The commission said it has around 5,000 outlets for marketing of khadi, handloom, and other local products.
The UGC had requested universities and HEIs to organise the activities mentioned in the schedule to promote khadi, handloom and other local products. The Khadi Mahotsav began on Gandhi Jayanti i.e. October 2.
