NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced an extension of the deadline for claiming arrears of post-doctoral and doctoral fellowships. As per the official notice, UGC has extended the deadline to claim pending dues of doctoral and post-doctoral students till October 8.
The notice outlined that the commission had received numerous appeals requesting an extension of the deadline for claiming pending dues. Responding to these representations, UGC has decided to extend the last date for submission till October 8. The official notice read, "UGC has received several representations to extend the last date for claiming pending dues. It has, therefore, been decided to extend the last date up to October 8, 2024."
The Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and fellows are urged to request their pending dues, which include fellowship amounts, house rent allowance, and contingency funds admissible up to August 2024. These claims should be filed via the Scholarship Fellowship Management Portal (SFMP) before the deadline. "Stakeholders (HEI's and Fellows) are requested to claim their pending dues, fellowship, house rent allowance/contingency admissible up to August 2024, by 8th October 2024 on Scholarship Fellowship Management Portal (SFMP)," the UGC notice read.
In March 2024, the central government introduced a common fellowship portal for PhD and post-doctoral students. The portal hosts application forms for UGC, Indian Council of Medical Research and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). A notable feature of the portal is its eligibility calculator, enabling candidates to assess their eligibility for different fellowship schemes. According to the website, the portal aims to eliminate the information gap for students by centralizing details on eligibility criteria and application processes across multiple fellowship programs.
