The deadline for completion of master’s degree for December 2018 UGC-NET candidates has been extended to June 30, 2022. Whereas, the June 2019 UGC-NET students can finish their degree by December 31, 2022, as per a notice issued by the UGC.
The UGC took this decision in favour of some students who had qualified the December 2018 and June 2019 UGC-NET or JOINT CSIR-UGC test for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) under the UGC scheme, but could not complete their master’s degree as universities delayed conducting exams or declaration of results due to COVID-19 situation.
The public notice issued by the UGC also highlighted the eligibility conditions of NET. According to the eligibility criteria, all those candidates who are pursuing a master’s degree or have appeared for the final exams or waiting for their results or whose exams have been delayed can appear for NET.
However, such students are considered eligible for JRF or Assistant Professor only when they have passed their qualifying examinations with the requisite percentage of marks within two years from the date of the NET result.
