UGC NET June 2024 records 81% attendance; 9.08 lakh candidates appeared for offline exam

NEW DELHI: The June session of the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) 2024 recorded an 81 percent attendance. A total of 9,08,580 candidates appeared for the exam held on June 18. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the exam in offline mode in two shifts for 83 subjects.

A total of 11,21,225 students registered for the OMR-based exam including 6,35,587 females, 4,85,579 males, and 59 third gender candidates. Last year, 9,45,872 candidates registered while the overall attendance was recorded at 73.6%.

NTA conducted the UGC NET exam at 1,205 examination centres located in 317 cities across the country. “In the above context, it is pertinent to mention that the UGC has introduced for the first time a provision to provide opportunity to candidates of a Four Year UG Programme for ‘award of Junior Research Fellowship and ‘admission to PhD only,’ said NTA in an official statement.

UGC NET June 2024 analysis

The shift-wise number of candidates who registered and appeared for the UGC NET exam is as follows:

“The successful conduct of the exam was made possible by sincere efforts of City Coordinators, Centre, Superintendents, Observers, NTA Officials and staff, and the enabling support system,” NTA added.

UGC NET June 2024 was conducted for three categories: (i) ‘award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as assistant professor’, (ii) ‘appointment as assistant professor and admission to PhD’ and (iii) ‘admission to PhD only’. The exam is conducted twice a year and the third category has been introduced for the first time starting from the upcoming academic year.
