NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conclude the University Grants Commission - National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) December 2024 session on January 16. The NTA has been conducting the UGC NET December 2024 exams from January 3 for 85 subjects in computer-based test (CBT) mode. The UGC NET exam is held to determine the eligibility of candidates for award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as assistant professor, and admission to PhDs.
The Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin and several state MPs have been requesting the NTA to postpone the NET exam scheduled for January 15-16 as it coincides with the Pongal festival. It also coincides with several other major festivals such as Makar Sankranti, Lohri, and Basant Pancham. Slamming the BJP-led central government for showing “complete insensitivity toward Tamils”, DMK MP Kanimozhi MP has written to the Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan requesting him to defer the exam.
However, the NTA has recently uploaded the NET admit card for the exams scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday. The exam will be held in two shifts - shift 1 from 9 am to 12 noon and shift 2 from 3 pm to 6 pm.
