NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) 2024 December session result today, February 22. Over 6 lakh candidates who appeared for the eligibility test will be able to check their UGC NET result 2024 through the official website, ugcnet.nta.ac.in.
Candidates will require their login credentials such as application number and password to download the UGC NET 2024 results. The UGC NET 2024 results have been prepared based on the final answer key.
The UGC NET provisional answer key was issued on January 31 and the objection window was available till February 3.
The UGC NET result 2024 will have important details such as candidate’s name, roll number, application number, father’s name, category maximum marks, percentage of marks obtained, marks secured on each paper and more.
The UGC NET Result 2024 exam was held at 558 exam centres in 266 cities across the country. As per NTA, 8,49,166 candidates registered for the exam and 6,49,490 candidates appeared for the exam. The overall attendance was 76.5%. The UGC NET December 2024 exam was conducted on January 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 16, 21, and 27.

The UGC NET score will also be used for PhD admissions. Earlier, there were only two categories, however, now "PhD only" category has been also added.
Category-1: Eligible for admission to PhD with JRF and for appointment as assistant professor.
Category-2: Eligible for admission to PhD without JRF and for appointment as assistant professor.
Category-3: Eligible for admission to PhD programme only.
Candidates who have a masters degree in professional programmes such as engineering and technology do not require UGC NET qualification for appointment as assistant professor. The rule was formed in tune with the AICTE recruitment norms.
After the University Grants Commission (UGC) published the draft UGC faculty recruitment regulations 2025, there were a lot of confusion regarding the eligibility criteria for assistant professor posts, especially due to media reports claiming that NET score is no more need for the recruitment. However, the UGC chairman Jagadesh Kumar clarified later that it is UGC NET mandatory for assistant professor recruitment.
