UGC barred NMIMS Mumbai from offering online and ODL programmes for 3 sessions for violating norms. NMIMS said it is examining notice details.

NEW DELHI: The Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Maharashtra has clarified that notice from the University Grants Commission (UGC) barring it from offering Online and Distance Learning (ODL) and online programmes does not apply to its full-time and offline programmes. In a public statement, NMIMS assured students that it is examining the details of the notice and trying to resolve the issue. UGC barred the institute from offering these programmes due to violation of norms.
“We understand that this notice may have raised concerns. NMIMS University would like to assure all our students and stakeholders that we are actively examining the details of the notice and we are closely engaging with all the parties to address the issue and resolve it as soon as possible,” said NMIMS in a public statement issued on its website.

“Regarding this communication it is pertinent to note that this communication of the UGC does not apply to any of our full-time or offline programs,” the institute added.
While barring the institute from offering online, ODL programmes for January-February 2023, July-August 2023 and January-February 2024 academic sessions, the UGC also cautioned potential students against taking admission in any course offered by NMIMS.
According to the commission, the institute violated norms with regard to functioning of the Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA), quality of Self Learning Material and e-Learning Material (e-LM), nomenclature of Centre for Distance and Online Learning. UGC alleged that NMIMS was not following the fee refund policy and that the commission received various complaints against the institute regarding the ODL, online courses.
