UGC Scholarship: Registration open for SC,ST students in PG professional courses

UGC Scholarships: The last date to register for the scholarship is November 30 and institute verification will close on December 15.
NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has opened the registration process for scholarships for postgraduate students belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in professional courses.
Candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria need to apply online through the National Scholarship Portal following which the institutions will verify the applications and supporting documents. The last date to register for the scholarship is November 30 and institute verification will close on December 15.
The main objective of the initiative is to provide students from historically marginalised communities with the opportunity to study professional subjects such as engineering (MTech), management ( MBA and others), pharmacy and others in Indian institutions, says the UGC notice.

Scholarship application: Important points
The selected candidate will receive the scholarship for two-three years depending on the duration of the postgraduate course. The UGC notice says: “An amount of Rs.7,800 per month will be awarded under PG scholarships (under ME/MTech) and for other courses, the amount of scholarship will be Rs.4500 per month.”
The scholarship will be paid via online direct benefit transfer (DBT) mode to the bank accounts of students. In case of discrepancies found in the bank details the scholarship will be cancelled.
The scholarship will be paid from the date of the students’ joining the programme and renewal of the scholarship “depends on good conduct and maintenance of minimum attendance” as well as academic performance. A report card on the student’s performance will be submitted at the end of the year to UGC. Students who fail a semester will not receive the scholarship again.
