NEP SAARTHI: UGC announces the new list of student ambassadors twice a year- in January and July.

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced the names of NEP SAARTHIs for January to June session 2025. The NEP Student Ambassador for Academic Reforms in Transforming Higher Education in India (SAARTHI) initiative aims to promote awareness and active participation in implementing the provisions of NEP 2020 among students in higher education institutions.
As per the official UGC notice, a total of 725 students from 117 institutions have been selected as NEP SAARTHIs or student ambassadors. UGC announces the list of new SAARTHIs every half yearly- January to June and July to December.
As per the NEP SAARTHI list, the selections include 21 from Andhra Pradesh, 11 from Arunachal Pradesh, 17 from Assam, 12 each from Bihar and Chhattisgarh, 4 from Delhi, 62 from Gujarat, 21 from Haryana, 17 from Himachal Pradesh, 45 from Jharkhand, 41 from Karnataka, 9 from Kerala, 50 from Madhya Pradesh, and 84 from Maharashtra, among others.
UGC invites nominations from HEIs. The intuition may conduct a written test or interview to select candidates. The ideal candidates are expected to possess a good personality, communication skills, organizational abilities, creativity, responsibility, and leadership qualities.
The number of nominations depends on the size of the HEI. Institutions with fewer than 2,500 students can nominate up to two ambassadors, while those with over 10,000 students can nominate up to 12. Eligible candidates include students from undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD. programmes.

At the end of one year, students who perform their duties satisfactorily will receive a certificate of participation from UGC.
The UGC official notice states, "Activities undertaken by the SAARTHIs will be monitored regularly by the in charge from the HEI and UGC. If a SAARTHI does not carry out the assigned activities, his/her nomination may be revoked by the UGC in consultation with the HEIs concerned. "
