Union Budget 2022: Nirmala Sitharaman to present India budget in Parliament today

NEW DELHI: Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2022 under the Modi government in the parliament today at 11am. Like last year, this year too, the budget 2022 will be available in digital format.

Budget 2022 Speech

The finance minister will deliver the budget speech at 11 am today in Lok Sabha. While the budget speech usually lasts for two hours, last year Sitharaman delivered the longest budget speech lasting 160 minutes.

The National Informatics Centre under the guidance of the Department of Economic Affairs has developed an app to access India budget 2022.

Union Budget 2022 expectations

5 expectations of education sector from India Budget 2022:

• Directors and vice-chancellors of private colleges and universities demand better systems for research, boost in education infrastructure, reduction in GST rates, encouragement and involvement of private edtech startups in the Union Budget 2022.
• Private education sector hopes for a budget that can improve technology infrastructure, provide skill training to youth, tighten control on edu-tech, and introduce skill-oriented courses such as animation and design courses at the school level.
• Private sector expects a budget that can bridge the digital gap, better internet connectivity infrastructure, allocation of funds for teacher-training, reduction in 18% GST, focus on online education, and bring urban and rural populations closer.
• Private players, publishers are expecting funds to improve access to online education, data protection, student scholarships and GST cuts.
• Private education technology leaders and entrepreneurs expect tax reliefs, initiatives for teacher training, job-guarantee, and investment in digital learning in Union Budget 2022.

The budget session 2022 began on Monday, January 31. President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament and highlighted the achievements of the Modi government's mega COVID-19 vaccination drive, and noted that 150 crore doses were administered to the country's citizens in a record time.

Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday also tabled a copy of the Economic Survey 2021-22 in Rajya Sabha.
