NEW DELHI: The Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will launch a new programme at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras today. The new programme, bachelor of science (BS) in electronic systems, will be launched at 11 am. The launch of the new BS in electronic systems programme will be streamed live on YouTube.

Students enrolled in the BS in electronic systems will also get an option to exit the programme earlier with a foundation-level certificate or diploma degree.

Announcing that the union education minister will launch the programme, the institute earlier said: “IIT Madras is launching a BS degree program in Electronic Systems to meet the significant and growing demand for skilled graduates in the electronics and embedded systems sector in India.”

The event will be presided over by the IIT Madras director professor V Kamakoti. Pawan Kumar Goenka, chair, board of governors at the institute will be the guest of honor at the launch. The programme is set to be coordinated by professor S Aniruddhan and professor Boby George belonging to the department of electrical engineering at the institute.

As per the eligibility criteria of the new BS programme, anyone with Class 12 (or equivalent) certificate irrespective of age, role, or geographical location can apply for the programme.

School students who have appeared for their Class 11 final exams with Physics and Mathematics as their subjects of study will also be able to apply. Those who qualify can join the BS programme after Class 12th.
