University of Hyderabad partners with ICMR- INI to offer joint PhD, training programmes

Students and scholars will also be offered with the internship and placement offers at ICMR - NIN as part of the partnership.

The University of Hyderabad has joined hands with the ICMR- National Institute of Nutrition to offer joint PhD and training programmes, exchange faculty in mutual areas of work. The partnership will also host and organise symposiums and conferences as well as secure grants for undertaking collaborative research.

Notably, the collaboration will also provide students and scholars with internship and placements at ICMR-NIN.

The agreement was signed by Devesh Nigam, registrar, University of Hyderabad and Bharati Kulkarni, director, ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition in the presence of the vice chancellor of UoH, BJ Rao.

Highlighting the importance of establishing people to people connect between researchers of both the institutions, BJ Rao, vice chancellor of UoH, said: “The agreement has been signed to develop the partnership further and roll out the activities as envisaged in the MoU. I wish to explore the establishment of mobile testing labs for food and nutrition closer to the community.”

Ramesh K Mishra, dean, School of Medical Sciences urged that with the expertise available, there is an opportunity to explore the role of nutrition on cognition and expressed his willingness to co-host a symposium to delve deeper into this aspect, as per the official statement.

Bharati Kulkarni, director, ICMR-NIN, provided a chronology of the evolution and offerings that NIN has undertaken over the last 100 years and expressed extreme happiness that the relationship has the scope and scale to make an impact in the country, region and global south.
