University of Leeds invites applications for MSc in sustainable agriculture, food production from Indians

The applications for the MSc programme will be open till July 31. A scholarship for Indian students, worth 6,000 pounds (Rs 6,66,154.20) will also be provided by the University of Leeds.

NEW DELHI: The University of Leeds, United Kingdom (UK) is inviting applications from Indian students to apply for its Masters of Science (MSc) programme in sustainable agriculture and food production. The course will equip students with the expertise to tackle global challenges in food security and sustainable farming, as per the official statement.

The duration of the MSc programme is 12 months and the university will start the course in September 2025. The applications for the agriculture programme will be open till July 31.

“ With a strong focus on environmental sustainability, cutting-edge research, and industry collaboration, it offers a valuable opportunity for those looking to make a real-world impact in the agricultural sector,” the university said.

Emphasising on the growing importance of sustainable agriculture and food production, the university said that the sustainable demands are pushed by three challenges: expanding global population, increasing environmental pressures, and a changing climate.

University of Leeds MSc Programme: Features

Students, who will be part of the MSc programme, will have access to the university’s ‘state-of-the-art’ research farm, which will provide ‘hands-on’ experience across a variety of agricultural landscapes, including arable crops, agroforestry plots, and sheep grazing areas.

“Throughout their studies, students will have opportunities to visit and conduct research on the farm, gaining practical exposure to sustainable farming techniques, livestock management, and environmental monitoring. This direct access to a working farm enhances their learning experience by enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting and undertake impactful research projects,” the university added.

Students will also be part of the research projects and will engage with various agricultural advancements, including crop biotechnology, genome engineering, sustainable livestock production, and environmental monitoring and management, it said.

The programme will open career opportunities for students in various fields such as consulting, policy, scientific monitoring, biotechnology, and PhD research. “The skills gained will also be highly relevant for roles in sustainability, decarbonisation, climate mitigation, and circular economies,” the university said.

MSc Programme in Sustainable Agriculture & Food Production: Eligibility, scholarships

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree with at least 2:1 honours or first class Indian bachelor’s degree equivalent in a relevant field such as biology, environmental science, food science, biochemistry, agriculture, or crop and soil science to be eligible to apply for the master's programme.

Students, applying for the programme, should also have 70% or 75% standard Class 12 English marks depending on state board or IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in any sections.

A scholarship for Indian students, worth 6,000 pounds (Rs 6,66,154.20) will also be provided by the University of Leeds.
