'Gross, dangerous': Twitter users demand action against UP teacher who dangled student upside down

NEW DELHI: A teacher in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur has been arrested for dangling a Class 2 child upside down from the first floor of the school building. After the video of the incident went viral on social media platforms, twitter users reacted to the incident demanding the teacher to be sacked, and calling the incident 'traumatic' for the child.

A twitter user called the incident traumatic for the child, and tweeted, "That child will carry the trauma for rest of his life."

Another twitter user reacting to the incident tweeted, “Imagine the amount of abuse that has been going on unnoticed, unreported until now, in the absence of phone cameras.”

Criticizing the incident, another user tweeted, “there is so much wrong in one picture, the school parapet/railing height is so less that any child/human can fall from it. second the way nobody is preventing the principal from doing this violence. Third doing this violence in front of all, just hope children could erase this memory.”

Another user called it a reality of our education system, and tweeted, “The student is poor financially. The school authorities make them an example for others. It's a gruesome reality of our education system.”

Some users demanded that the principal should be punished for inflicting such an act. A user demanding necessary action against the teacher tweeted, “Principal should be punished severely. Human Right commission to take Necessary action to this incident.”

Another user demanding action against the teacher tweeted,” Stern actions are warranted against this teacher. It's gross. It's dangerous.”

Following the incident, which occurred on Thursday, an FIR was lodged against Principal Manoj Vishwakarma of the Sadbhavna Shikshan Sansthan Junior High School under Ahraura police station and he was taken into custody. According to the police, the school headmaster inflicted the shocking punishment on the five-year-old child for having 'gol gappas' at a stall outside the school without informing the teacher.

The child’s father Ranjit Yadav subsequently lodged a complaint with the police following which an FIR was lodged on Thursday night. The incident was also investigated by the district basic shiksha adhikari and on the basis of his report, an FIR was registered against the school headmaster. The FIR was registered against the teacher under relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act and Indian Penal Code.
